Silver

25 years

That’s quite an achievement (for BLISS) and a massive stroke of unbelievable luck (for me).

Vivaldi, at night, in a church…

…played by a chamber orchestra of local virtuoso musicians. The Interpreti Veneziani and their guest oboist played in the Chiesa di San Vidal, surrounded by ornate stone and marble statues. We found the venue (eventually – lost, lost again, tickets place, tourist info at platform 1, very helpful bloke guessed the Chiesa di San Vidal (in the end) and off we went. Sort of.

Vaporetto

Should that be Vaporetti? BLISS’ brainwave was to get the seventy two hour tickets, freeing us up to bomb around the city and the islands at (well, almost at…) will.

There are nineteen routes serving the city and the islands. That’s a good thing.

The routes, posters and electronic signboards can be, putting it as kindly as possible, not as informative and clear as they might be. The system is further complicated by all the routes, boats, services being Number 2. When all else fails and BLISS has to ask (I’m never going to resort to asking – bloke thing), it goes like this:

“*DESTINATION*” (points at boat at pontoon.

“No. Numero due”

“Due?”

“Si”

It’s not without a certain chaotic charm, it’s funny at times, and you get to go to places you’d not intended to visit. Honestly, they’re all number 2.

That’s it, head over the ball, knee bent – it’s a football thing

Walking back to the waterbus stop we passed a gallery. Pride of place in the display was given to a painting we both noticed. BLISS said:

“What a weird painting.”

“Which one?”

“The man with the big erection kicking the skull.”

We went back for another look, and there it was, dark brown and sepia tones, a man, obviously (now) aroused, about to put his left foot through a damaged, crumbling human skull.

“Did you really not notice?” she asked.

I had to admit that what I had noticed was that the painter obviously had a good grip on the correct technical aspects: head still and over the ball, arms out for balance, knee bent and also over the ball (or skull, as the case may be).

Thanks…

…BLISS.
